If there was a definition of "female
rapper", the first candidate would have to be Chin Chilla Meek. She
dominates tracks with her sassy metaphors and cut throat punch lines; a deadly
combination that distinguishes her from any other artist! Alongside of the male
dominated team MAF (MONEY AND FAMILY) Chin Chilla embraced her femininity and
created a sound that would distinguished her music in a category of its own.
Chimeka Yvonne Powell also known as Chin Chilla Meek was born May 15 1989 on
the sunny shores of Santa Monica CA. Her mother (Mary Jo Powell) recognized her
gifts at an early age, entering her into beauty pageants where Chimeka would
showcase her musical talents. She excelled on the pageant scene winning
numerous pageant titles including Little Miss Black L.A 1993. In 1996 along
with her mother, she relocated to Harvey IL; where she would attend Thornton
Township High School. Along with being faced by the everyday struggles of life,
Chimeka's strengths were tested by the loss of her mother at an early age. She
became familiar with the streets of Harvey, and adapted the strong willed
mentality which is the driving force behind her music.
In 2008, Meek was introduced to the music
world recording her first song 'STAR TIME" along with the company of a very
talented local producer by the name of NOVACANE. (Who would later record and
produce future classics such as, "PARDON MY WAYS" and “Get Up“) That
defining moment would mark the beginning of her musical career. Chin Chilla has
continued to make her mark on the local Chicago Hip Hop scene working with
other artist including Sly Polaroid, Deeder the HG and Supreme Money Makers LLC
Marvo. She was also featured on Yae Dotta's “Welcome To My Private Party"
mix tape hosted by the legendary Atlanta Hip Hop DJ, DJ Holiday of Brick Squad
1017. Meek continues to work on her craft in hopes of gaining international
recognition performing across the Midwest in both clubs and talent showcases .
She stands as one of the best female artist in the Chicago land area and continues
to shoot for greatness. Murda is the only female in the MAF family to this day
and continues to stands to the title of Mrs.MAF.
